Simple I.T. is proudly Carbon Negative

By providing regular support to The Wilderness Society, Simple I.T. is proudly Carbon Negative.

Rather than paying a company to plant thirsty trees in ill-prepared soil as most carbon offset companies do, The Wilderness Society protects old growth forest and negotiates with the Australian State and National government to expand or create new national parks. By doing this they are protecting established trees and forest.

The biggest problem with carbon offset programs is that trees are planting on soil that has not been prepared adequately enough. You cannot simply shove trees into the ground and expect them to start growing effectively, especially if the soil they are in is already dry or acidic. Trees also take 20 years or more to start offering a return for the carbon produced so it's really an ineffective way to reduce carbon emissions.

If you want to make your business carbon neutral, then you should ask the provider the following questions before you sign up:

1.       What type of trees will you be planting?
2.       How long do the trees take to get to adulthood?
3.       How will you be carbon offsetting my business in the time it takes them to grow to adulthood?
4.       Has the land you are planting the trees in had adequate preparation before the trees have been planted?
5.       Does the land you are planting in get adequate annual rainfall?
6.       Has the area you are planting in had sufficient planning for the prevention of forest fires?

By asking these questions, you will basically not be satisfied with any company that is offering a carbon offset program. This is why I have gone with The Wilderness Society as they protect established old growth forest with soil that is already acting as a carbon sink.

Support The Wilderness Society – make your business carbon negative today.
