Second Hand Computer Deals
Purchase a second hand computer from Simple I.T.
Desktops or Notebooks are available.
I can provide my customers with computers that have come from Corporate businesses for a fraction of the price of a brand new machine. Once the lease is finished on these corporate machines new ones are bought and the old ones are either destroyed or moved on to an external source; usually a computer wholesaler.
All the machines are working and come with a three month limited warranty. I always check the machine thoroughly before it is given to the client to make sure nothing is faulty. It is during this time I also make sure that the PC is completely up to date with Microsoft service packs and my proprietary list third party software, as detailed below.
The computers are usually from one of the following manufacturers:Dell, HP, Acer or Lenovo/IBM
Notebooks can also be from Toshiba or Apple.
The computer comes with a USB keyboard and mouse. A monitor can also be bought from the same source or purchased separately.
Installed software
Operating System: Windows XP Professional, updated to Service Pack 3 (I encourage people not to use Windows Vista unless they buy a new computer; even then I try and get someone to use XP instead.XP or Windows 7 are my choice; I avoid Vista like the plague.)
For licensing reasons, all machines I provide second hand do not come with the operating system as standard. You must pay for the license transfer. But, don't worry, it's not as much as buying it new.
Anti Virus: AVG FREE 9
Spyware Protection: Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware
Remote Support: Team Viewer
Registry and temporary file cleaner: CCleaner
Disk Management: Defraggler
Other pre-installed software includes: iTunes/Winamp, Windows Media Player 10, K-Lite Codec Pack (to play xvid, divx, Quicktime and Realplayer files), Firefox 3.0, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Mail (replaces Outlook Express), Skype, Nero Lite, Adobe Reader 8, PDF Creator, DVD Shrink and TweakUI.
Office packages are available in two forms, either a free copy of Open Office or a TRIAL ONLY version of Microsoft Office 2007
For licensing reasons all machines I provide second hand do not come with Office software. I can offer the best, and cheapest, option for buying it new but second hand copies are not available unfortunately. Open Office is free but if you have only used Microsoft Office previously, you will probably find it hard to get on with. Microsoft Office 2007 has really come down in price and there are great options for home customers.
Machine Optimisation
Each machine I build (new or second hand), or service, I always make sure it is optimised to the best possible configuration. This includes making sure all the drivers for the machine are installed and are the correct ones from the manufacturer and not from Microsoft (where applicable). I also make sure that the operating system is working at peak performance and that the installed programs are configured correctly and already run at least twice so any updates or pre-configuration screens won't hit you the first time you fire it up.
I should note that I do not make it into a techy computer by removing essential components from the operating system or modifying things that I like a certain way but would confuse the hell out of a regular computer user. After all, that would go against my company moto.
Setup and training
Obviously, I'm not going to dump the machine on your doorstep or tell you to pick it up and fend for yourself - that type of service isn't nice and gives my area of I.T. a bad name.
I will always come round to set it up, show you through the installed software and guide you through a few of the basics. This basic tutorial can be expanded from a regular user who might like to know a few shortcuts, tweaks or cool things to make your life easier to someone who's never used a computer before and needs to know what a mouse is (or isn't for that matter) and why the keyboard hasn't got black and white keys. If I don't think you've got it, I will make sure I can get you up and running, or at least cautiously creeping forward, so you don't feel like you've just wasted your money on a duff investment.
Extra training
Extra training is available on request and can be anything really. From using the internet safely and smartly, creating home videos, advanced uses of Office documents and spreadsheets (although that is now much easier with Office 2007)
